HS race team Kahle Motorsport competing now with diesel power in rally raid
Following the engine choice of the factory teams, the HS Rally Team will use now also diesel technology. Matthias Kahle and Dr. Thomas M. Schünemann start in the future with a diesel powered SMG buggy. Premiere race is the Silk Way rally 11. to 18. September 2010. The racing season highlight will be the 2011 Dakar Rally. The new “company car” for the marathon rally specialist Matthias Kahle and Dr. Thomas M. Schünemann will be a diesel powered SMG Buggy. The new vehicle of the HS rally team from Hamburg is prepared by the French designer Philippe Gache. The inherent design made its debut at the Silk Way Rally 2009 and impressed on the Silk Road and in the Dakar Rally in 2010 with fast times.
Kahle and Schünemann already tested their new ride in the desert of Tunisia. Racing debut is planned for the Silk Way Rally in September and the ultimate goal is the 2011 Dakar with the aim to improve the final position results of the 2010 Rally Raid which they finished in the Fast&Speed-Honda buggy at 18th position.
Matthias Kahle:”The diesel-Buggy SMG is one of a new generation of buggies. The sensational handling is almost like a four-wheel drive prototype. In our test we were impressed with the difference that technology makes the diesel. I’m curious to see how we beat our competition, we want to land in any case even further forward. Our goal for the Silk Way Rally is to be first finisher behind the 4×4 prototypes.”
Dr. Thomas M. Schünemann: “I am sure that we have put together a great package that we can ride continues forward. Diesel technology has convinced me of the test: It is incredible how much power and torque, the engine just let loose in the lower speed range. Before the Silk Way Rally we will be testing the car only briefly in southern France. The new route from St. Petersburg to Sochi on the Black Sea has only a few sand and dune passages – nevertheless, we see the event more as a preparation race for the Dakar, we are very optimistic for next January and the 2011 Dakar Rally Raid”
