The Dakar course map
Quick Google map mash up of the 2009 Rally Dakar race course. A final version of this map with more details and overlays will be available at the a later point of time on this Puro Off-Road website. We are working on a few more goodies for the racing fans. The editor is also very excited since combining a visit of a old friend with the observing of the Dakar Rally from Cordoba after visiting the Dakar start in Buenos Aires. Until we open the site we can just say the common: More loading
Give it a second to let the page load in full if you like the pop-up version without leaving this page here. Otherwise there is a link back below the map to bring you back to this page here, geek stuff….. One way or the other you can view the map!
If you want to get the GPS file at ……. and convert it self to use with Google maps or Google Earth, there is a niffty little tool available to convert the GPS file into a KML file. it’s called GPSBabel and can be downloaded for free at the GPSBabel website.
The contestants line-up for the 2010 edition. Despite the many trouble it had this year with downsizing the motorcycle engine capacity to 450cc for the professionals, the official withdrawal of KTM and their top riders, everything seems to be back in order. KTM is still omnipresent, and the big boys, Marc Coma, Cyril Despres, David Casteu, Jonah Street, Pal Ullevalseter, Jordi Viladoms, Frans Verhoeven and David Fretigne are all present and accounted for.
Though this year it would seem that there are less KTM motorcycles, they do still dominate the numbers. The 2010 edition sees many more Yamaha motorcycles, but also more BMW and even Aprilia, Sherco, Beta, Jincheng, Honda, Husqvarna and Husaberg. On the ladies side, Mirjam Pol and Annie Seel are present again.
As far as nationalities goes, they’re coming from all over the world: France 37, Argentina 15, Spain 13, The Netherlands 11, Italy 11, Chile 8, Brazil 7, Portugal 6, UK 6, Czech Republic 5, Canada 4, Australia 4, Poland 3, Sweden 2, USA, 2, Slovakia 2, Serbia 2, Turkey 2, Belgium 2, Germany 2, Peru 2, China 2 and 1 rider for Norway, Slovenia, Uruguay, Ukraine, Guatemala, Ireland, Austria and Mexico.
The motorcycles will be riding 8,937 kilometers (the cars are going a bit further with 9,030 kms).
