Desert racer at major testing program
The VW Race Touareg was the dominant car at the last Dakar Rally in South America. VW intents to continue it’s winning streak and the race car for the 2011 Dakar just completed a major r&d and testing program in the European alps. A prototype photographer catches the Race Touareg at the brake test. When this years winner Carlos Sainz and the other team drivers at New Year’s day go racing again in South America, the pilots can rely on their racing machine. It’s not a secret yet the results show the past years: preparation rules! The Volkswagen Race Touareg absolves an extensive test program at regular roads. In the European alps the brakes of the Race Touareg have their performance tested. The otherwise usual camouflaging for prototypes was not applied to the Race Touareg. No sponsor painting on the car also, in a basic blue paint job the test driver chased the 300 hp and 600 Nm powerful five-cylinder TDI up and down the mountain roads. Already last year VW had the brake cooling system optimized for more efficiency so that the 1.8-ton desert racer has some serious stopping force even at extreme conditions. After all, the VW sprints in 6.1 seconds from zero to 100 km/h and reaches a top speed of +/- 190 km/h.
