Baja Spain 2010 a 1-2 for Team X-Raid

Baja Espana Aragon 2010 final results show that Team X-Raid X-raid was able to repeat the victory at Baja España Aragon (Baja Spain) in 2010 for the third consecutive year after winning the rally already in 2009 and 2008. Completing the perfect result for the team is Leonid Novitskiy and his co-driver Andreas Schulz who finished second place. Seven hours, 12 minutes and 21 seconds is the winning time for French driver Stéphane Peterhansel. It is his second Baja Espana win after 2007. The polish Nissan Navara pilot Holowczyc started as leader into the stage after his victory at Friday’s Super Special Stage at Motorland Aragón, but X-Raid´s driver has taken advantage of his BMW and, as he said, the Baja´s “excellent stages”, to add another victory to his personal race portfolio.
The Polish driver has been the main opponent fighting for a place on the podium. In SS4 arrival, the last stage of the day and of the race, Boris Gadasin has finished in second position, ahead of his team member, Leonid Novitskiy, just 48 seconds before him. However, between the arrival of this last stage and the assistance, Gadasin has suffered a breakdown that stop him to get on time to the assistance, and the penalty left him out from the first positions.

Instead, Holowczyc has reached the third position, something that he has described in the press conference as “a present from Gadasin”. The Pole, who began leader on Saturday after his victory, lost some time during the stages in the weekend. In spite of his good final results, he said he “needs a faster car to compete against his rivals”.
In the press conference after the race, the three winners were agree about “stages has been very technical” and has been “fantastically organized”.
Luis Climent deserves a special mention, because he has been the first Spaniard in the results. Widely experienced in the Baja, the Valencian has done one of his better performance in the Aragonesa stage and has reached the fifth position in the final. Nani Roma, right after him, has achieved an excellent time and has been sixth despite the penalty.

Meanwhile, Jesús Calleja, Spanish adventurer known by his program in channel Cuatro “Desafío Extremo”, has reached the eighteenth position in his first Baja. This is a very good result if we think that on Saturday he began the race in the fiftieth position. Calleja, who was driving a Mitsubishi Montero with his co-driver and friend Fernando López, had the goal of finishing the race, so with his results he can consider his challenge completed.

In bikes, after the absence of Marc Coma and Jordi Viladoms, and the bad luck of Gerard Farrés, who yesterday was injured his foot and couldn´t begin the exit today, Joan Barreda seemed to have an easy way to end the Baja with success. However, an electrical breakdown in his Suzuki 450 left him out from the race. The experienced in Bajas Marc Guasch has accomplish his first victory in the Baja España-Aragón, after more than 10 years.

Right after him, Joan Pedrero, who was the third one last year, has reached his own personal record with the second position in the Aragonesa stage. The same happened with Julián Villarrubia, who has accomplished the third position in the podium. Óscar Romero has done a very good performance being the first quad in the race, and the third one clasified in the scratch. He ratify his victory in 2009. Mario Gajón was the second one with his quad in the podium, and Francisco Palacín, the third one.

In buggies, Iñaki Texeira has also ratified today his victory after finishing the stage before Miguel Vila, who reached the second position.
107 starters were the total registered (62 cars and 45 bikes). All of them began the first stage last Friday. Today, 29 cars and 27 bikes has arrived to the assistance and has finished the race.
