Baja 2010 and MotorLand Aragón
Everything ready to start the Baja 2010 in MotorLand Aragón. Everything is ready in MotorLand facilities to welcome the start of the 2010 Baja Spain, that will begin tomorrow. Today, most of the competitors have passed their administrative and technical checkings and scrutineering. Among them, all the Aragonese (local) drivers that will be running in the Monegro´s desert event: José Antonio Velilla, Emilio Eiroa, Vicente Colás, Enrique Arroyo, Fernando Domínguez and Javier Grasa.
Moreover, the Spanish adventurer Jesús Calleja, just landed from his last “Extreme Challenge” in Uganda, passed also the control of his vehicle, a Toyota Hylux from Toyota Cooper Tires Team.
Even though the buggies, bikes, quads and prioritary cars will be doing the checkings tomorrow, today we could already see some of the electrical bikes that will be inaugurating the Baja tomorrow. They are 10 Quantya bikes that will be driven by kids from 14 to 17 years old from the Aragonese Motorbike Federation.
Team X-Raid starting with two cars at Baja Spain 2010 (23rd -25th July). The French duo Stéphane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottret will start tomorrow at Baja Spain 2010. The duo finished 2nd in their BMW X3 CC at Baja Spain 2009 , which has placed them as favorite to defend the BMW X-Raid team’s 2009 title (Nani Roma/ Michel Perin) and 2008 title (Nasser Al-Attiyah/ Tina Thörner). The second X-raid car will be driven by the Russian Leonid Novitskiy and co-piloted by the German Andreas Schulz who recently won the first edition of the Rally TT Vodafone Estoril-Portimao-Marrakech. Further the Russian-German Duo is leading the FIA Cross Country World Cup 2010.
Tomorrow at 16:13, spectacular Eco Baja electric bikes will be the ones in charge of taking the start of the event, racing the almost 5 kilometers of the Super Special Stage. Fans could watch daily television programs on international channels such as ESPN, RTL and Eurosport.
About MotorLand Aragon: The MotorLand Aragon project (Ciudad del Motor de Aragon) grew out of the legendary Alcaniz street circuit and the enthusiasm this event sparked locally and nationally. The desire to continue this long-standing tradition gave rise to the idea of building a new motorsports city – hence the Spanish name that translates into Motor City of Aragon. This area of Spain has had a strong racing tradition since 1965 and this was the ‘engine’ that persuaded the local government to invest in the area as well as encourage private investment in hotels and world-class facilities.” The circuit has collaborated with a team of internationally renowned experts to transform this concept into a reality. The ultimate aim of this project is to improve the region’s economy by creating a destination resort to attract investment and support from motor racing teams, car companies as well as the general public.
