The day started cold but the weather turned warm for the BlueWater Resort & Casino/Best in the Desert Parker 425 off-road race held 5. of February 2011 in Parker. At the awards ceremony Sunday morning, Best in the Desert Racing (BitD) Association President Casey Folks said 212 vehicles started the race, and just over half of them, 116, finished it. Folks said the race was very exciting, with the leads in many classes changing times several times. He said there were several classes, which were so close, they couldn’t go by who crossed the finish line first to determine a winner. Taking the top spot in the three-lap classes were Jesse Jones of Litchfield Park and Joe Weining of Tucson. They drove No. 76 in the 1400 Pro class, a Geiser Trick Truck (Trophy Truck), to a time of 7:32:41. Read More→

Bryce Menzies, No. 70 (First in class, First Overall.) — The plan was just to cruise the first five laps and Jesse was right on me. We decided the last two laps that we were going to take it and run with it. Jesse is a really good friend of mine and it’s awesome to be racing with him. Just to be up here and win Laughlin is awesome. My first (off-road) win was with Jesse, when we teamed up. It feels really good to get my first win by myself. It’s a good start to the season and hopefully we come away with a championship at the end — this is a good start for it. I think it was good that we were just pacing each other off the start and we ran away from the field. We talked to each other before the race and we said, ‘Let’s just run five laps consistently and then from there, let’s go.’ That was the plan and he was running right behind me the whole time, like right on my tail. I saw him every corner. It’s the first win of the season, so it’s started off right. This is my second SCORE race so to get a win in the second race is pretty good. It’s good momentum to go into the year. We didn’t think we were going to be up here — we wanted to leave Laughlin with a top five but we’ll take the win, for sure. Read More→
Rookie Menzies stuns star-studded field to grab Overall victory. Surprised that he was four seconds behind the overall lead during Saturday’s first half of the race, SCORE rookie Bryce Menzies grabbed the lead right off the start during Sunday’s finale to capture the overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck title at the 17th Annual SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. Starting on the outside of the front row next to first day leader Jesse Jones, Menzies grabbed the physical lead in the elapsed-time race at the end of the front straightaway and maintained his lead over Jones to the claim his first SCORE checkered flag. With the race split into two days of eight laps each of an intensely rugged 6.25-mile course, Menzies ran a combined total time of one hour, 51 minutes and 38 seconds, averaging 53.75 miles per hour in his Red Bull-sponsored No. 70 Menzies Motorsports Ford F-150. Menzies finished physically first in Saturday’s first half of the race, but learned later that he was in second place to Jones by just four seconds in the elapsed-time race. Read More→
Jesse Jones, No. 1 (Leader after Saturday.) – Our truck works really well. We won a couple races last year so obviously we have the speed and we’re just carrying it straight into this year. Really, there was no secret. We just kept it clean. It’s a lot of fun to go through – I think we passed 24 trucks today. It was a good time. When you’ve got momentum like that, it kind of feeds on itself and you start feeling really good about the way that you’re driving and the way that the truck is handling. We just got through them. I’m a big believer in momentum. It just helps with the team and everything else. The guys did a great job prepping the truck for this race. This is a really tough race on the racecars. We had 28 more trucks that went across the course before we did and every time that a truck goes through a hole, it gets deeper and deeper. The disadvantages of starting in Read More→
