Freestyle star and off-road racer Jeff “Ox” Kargola has passed away after having fallen while participating in the 2011 Monster Energy Rip to the Tip Baja adventure ride in Mexico. The non-racing, eight-day ride starts in Tecate and ends in Cabo San Lucas. Sources say Kargola crashed in a section of whoops and was flown to a hospital but reportedly died en route. Jeff “Ox” Kargola was a two-time winner of the SCORE San Felipe 250, teaming with his good and long-time friend Colton Udall on the Johnny Campbell Racing Honda team. Rising Southern Nevada desert racing star Bryce Menzies along with Dan Martin, Shane Esposito and Roberto Ruiz all drew pole positions in their respective divisions during Saturday’s computerized drawing for starting positions in the upcoming 43rd Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500 desert race. The draw was held at the SCORE headquarters in Los Angeles. Rally legends Stephane Peterhansel piloting, the first time in competition, the Monster Energy All 4 Racing Xraid Mini and Marc Coma on KTM victorious at 2011 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. At April 7. 2011 the rally raid was over. France’s Stéphane Peterhansel wrapped up a record-breaking seventh win. Every bump you hit…you can’t go hard; you just cruise. We took off with just a real conservative pace and they started dropping one by one. When we dropped into Matomi Wash, Jesse (Jones) was first on the road, (Gary) Weyhrich was second and I was third. Jesse Jones had a flat right at the beginning of Matomi and we got by him. He was getting stuck so we went by and right at the end of Matomi, we got by Weyhrich and then we had the physical lead all the way in.
