With that goal now accomplished and another SCORE season well underway, Post and Co. strived to not only beat the competition, but established a winning tradition with Riviera Racing.
Mark Post was well ahead of his time and his racing experience came to him naturally, placing him in a league of his own. Ever the overachiever, Post had proven his race skills in the 1997 SCORE San Felipe Overall Championship victory and only waited six more races before dominating the 1998 SCORE San Felipe 250. Not only did Post claim the elite SCORE Class 1 victory on the shores of the Sea of Cortez in San Felipe, but he silenced the competition by winning the San Felipe 250 Overall Championship. Riviera Racing emerged to the front of the pack in 1998 and they’ve never looked back. SCORE Class 1 had long been considered the most competitive class in off road desert racing throughout the mid to late 1990’s until the newly introduced SCORE Trophy Truck class came along.
In 2001, Riviera Racing transitioned to the elite class of SCORE Trophy Trucks, distinguished by SCORE officials as, “Unlimited Production Trucks.” “Off road racing is like nothing else in life. Sometimes facing incredibly difficult challenges that test you physically and mentally and put you on the edge…there is nothing better,” said Post, a Southern California native.
“The competition level is so tight between truck teams,” explained Post. “Mistake free racing for 250 miles or 500 miles is tough, but then you throw in the SCORE Baja 1000 and winning takes a concerted team effort.”
Victory in the SCORE Trophy Truck ranks didn’t take long, as Post drove his state-of-the-art Unlimited Production Truck to victory at the 2002 SCORE Henderson 250. Post notched his second SCORE Trophy Truck win only a few months later when the 2003 SCORE season kicked off on the shores of the Colorado River in Laughlin, Nevada. Driving the Riviera Racing Trophy Truck to victory in the unforgiving Nevada desert at the 2003 SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge, Post continued executing his prowess by charging fast through arduous terrain. That success led to Post earning 336 points by the end of the season, where he placed third in the SCORE Trophy Truck Series point’s championship.
Post explained, “We performed strong throughout the season, but we missed the winner’s circle a couple times by only a few minutes. Those are tough losses, but the team forged on.”
Riviera Racing opened up the 2007 season firing on all cylinders and claimed top honors in the first day of racing at the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. By the weekend’s end, they finished in fourth position in a stacked field of 30 fierce competitors.
Since the first race weekend of the season, Riviera Racing has been on a terror. The next three races have yielded victories, dominating the desert racing world like never before.
Post led his team to impressive overall championship win at the Best in the Desert’s Parker 425, SCORE Baja 250 and the Best in the Desert’s Terrible’s Town 250.
More wins and a championship season are what Post and his No.3 Riviera Racing Team look to in the future. But to understand the possibilities that lie in Post’s racing future, one must look to the past.
Riviera Racing’s history is deep in grand performances and winning efforts.
