International Six Days Enduro – Morelia Michoacan Mexico

Week long preparations for this year’s International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) came nearer to an end this week as members of AMA Team USA began impounding their bikes Friday morning as the event was poised to get underway in Morelia, Mexico. A total of 34 American riders are entered in ISDE competition. In all, 368 riders from 28 different countries will start competing for World Trophy, Junior Trophy, Women’s Cup and three-rider club team honors beginning 8 a.m. Monday morning. According to Team USA Parc Ferme manager Jay Hall, the week has been dedicated to getting all 34 American riders into impound. “It’s a week-long effort,” Hall said. “It started on Monday and has continued right up to today (Friday) when our team is scheduled to begin impounding. It’s really a team effort. Everybody is helping one another working toward that one goal of getting each rider into impound.”
Abbott and Weigand will be joined by Kurt Caselli, Jimmy Jarrett, Nathan Woods and Mike Brown to form the prestigious six-rider U.S. World Trophy Team. Abbott, Caselli, Jarrett and Woods were on the team that finished third place in Greece two years ago.
“I like our chances at a podium finish again this year,” Caselli said. “All but Mike have Six Days experience and he’s, well, Mike Brown, one of the fastest off-roaders we have in the WORCS series right now. Mike brings tons of motocross experience to the team, and that kind of speed is what helps puts you on the podium.”
Joining AMA Team USA in its ISDE efforts this year on the four-rider Junior Trophy Team (for riders 23 years of age or younger) are Six Days veterans Cory Buttrick and Nick Fahringer and newcomers Taylor Robert and Ian Blythe.
In the three-rider U.S. Women’s World Cup Team, Kerrie Swartz will ride in her first Six Days with veteran riders Nicole Bradford and Amanda Mastin. Both Bradford and Mastin were on the Women’s World Cup winning team in 2007.
Another noteworthy competitor this year is Jeff Fredette who will be trying to extend his consecutive ISDE finish streak to 30. Fredette’s consecutive finish record is the longest in the 85-year history of Six Days competition.
