Third overall, second in the Trophy Truck Class – my premiere in the top category of desert racing couldn’t have gone much better. Team boss Roger Norman had invited me to tackle the 540 mile race from Las Vegas to Reno in one of his Norman Motorsports 840hp Trophy Trucks. Roger took a lot of time explaining the giant rear wheel drive monster to me. Then I had about 20 miles to get familiar with the rear wheel drive racer. Roger did the qualifying. His GPS played up a bit, and so we had to be satisfied with 26th starting place. Normally Roger puts his cars amongst the top five starters. But the multiple Baja 1000 winner Read More→

Vegas to Reno time trials did not work out soooo good for Roger Norman with a mid-twenties position about 23 seconds of the fastest overall pace set by Sam Berri and a few tenth following Berri the fastest Trophy Truck piloted by B.J. “Ballistic” Baldwin. O-ton Roger Norman “I blew the last turn before the timing gate and had to back up to avoid hitting a cone.” The Best in the Desert (BitD) Vegas to Reno is the longest off-road race in the USA with 534 miles to compete. So this time-gap might not be as crucial as at a considerable shorter race. According to our information will Roger Norman pass the Roger-Norman-Motorsports Read More→

B.J. Baldwin is one of the top race truck drivers out there. His garage is here in Las Vegas. He’s raced more than a hundred times and has never seen anything like this. His prayers go out to the families and the driver. “There shouldn’t be any blame on him or the sanctioning body or the spectators that got killed. I just think this is a freak accident and it could have happened to anybody, it could have happened to me,” Baldwin says.

A major accident took place at the California 200 night race in the Lucerne Valley area, off Bessemer Mine Road in SoCal. This is the darkest day for off road racing as I know it. Off-road racing will change forever.
My condolences to the families and individuals involved in this tragedy, the driver and co-pilot, crew, and all the spectators that were injured or killed.
The desert gives, the desert takes….. Vaya con Dios.

There is no need to publish and contemplate any further about this accident. Professionals are at the scene to investigate. Let them do their work and make – if at all – statements based on their findings. Eye witnesses and individuals at the scene are the only ones entitled to make statements based on facts – the rest are the usual “news” vultures exposing ethically unacceptable conduct.
Human values and morals conduct are way above the rights to inform and this kind of freedom of speech!
It is disgusting to see some of the inflammatory and disrespectful adjectives and descriptions used by so called “news media”.

Recent rumors that Armin Schwarz, the top AGM Class 1 driver and his co-pilot Bryan Lyttle will be participating in the upcoming Vegas to Reno BitD race with Roger Norman in the Norman Motorsports trophy truck appeared after the public announcement that Larry Roessler will depart and return to his former Terrible Herbst team. Today Puro Off-Road got the official confirmation on that deal. To our knowledge this will be the first time a German pilot capable of shaking up the established trophy truck “elite” is at the start at a major off-road desert race in USA. The race course offers an entire gamut of desert racing; from fast desert floors, switchback mountain roads through the pine forests and incredible vistas Read More→
