Volkswagen Trophy Truck & “Strietzel” Stuck

This post is like more an “open letter’ as anything else. I see in my website stats VW looks at this website here occasionally just like at many others. I mean like VW in Wolfsburg @ the mothership….
I been just reading that VW was making the first half of 2010 1,8 billion Euro, 3x as much as at as the same time last year. You guys sold in China, Brazil and the USA 16% more vehicle, a total of 3,6 Million vehicles.
So, as a motor-sport fan and from on Bavarian to another: I call out to Hans-Joachim “Strietzel” Stuck, the VW Motorsport Representative, I call out to H.-J. Stuck, a member of a great German racing family, as a competitor as you used to be (i recall the Austria LiquidMoly M1 rain race as personal favorite) and as a Gaudi-Bursch’ ( I recall some burning out-houses set on fire by….. :-) ) – why don’t you go and collect a few million Euro and put the name VW back into the Baja Trophy Truck Off-Road racing game!!
Should not be to hard with a balance sheet as it’s showing now…. You know… just a few little millions, like 8 or 10 or so….. :-)

You know there is unfinished business to do……. there is a Trophy Truck minus engine sitting somewhere in SoCal that want’s to do more as “just” arrive.
I understand with the economic crisis looming 2 years back to pull the plug on that program was reasonable thing to do.
But now it would be a good time to update that 5.5 liter V-12 clean diesel engine and ship it back to prep and do some racing…..
I’m sure Red Bull and all the other sponsors would support just as much as they did back then.

Nobody expects, with that much new technology in a vehicle and the challenges Baja dishes out, that even a semi-factory team is at par with established competitors with years of experience. No budget in the world could buy that. But doing one full desert-series season, with that under the belt VW could challenge.
The race engineers at VW R&D are not “Nasenbohrer”, they would iron the kinks out and get that thing flying sooner or later and hold up the colors just fine…..

Summary: It cant be the missing budget with that profits. It cant be lack on the R&D tech side of the deal. Dont gimmi any corporate decision stuff, ask the marketing guys on how a winning diesel Trophy Truck would reflect on the brand….. That should be enough answer.

And for the bean counters, looking at the pure numbers – there is not such a thing as a justifiable trophy truck (team), they been in the past, they are now and they always will be fire breathing, money eating machines!! They do not even closely represent the majority of Baja and desert racers soo far up as they are. Trophy Trucks are the top gladiators at the Circus Maximus Baja branch.
They are the formula one in off-road racing and with that image a excellent marketing platforms for a product.
You guys at VW got the first ever diesel Dakar victory, backed that up a years later and aim no for the triple. Time for a new off-road challenge…..

Games and bread for the people was the slogan at the Circus Maximus.
VW, give us some diesel smoke and some turbo waste-gate squeek with the dust at Baja……

So all I say Strietzel: Kruzifix no’moi doa’ somethings about that…. :-)
