Dakar Rally remains in South America for 2011
The official announcement is still awaited, but the decision has been made: The Dakar Rally is still taking place in Argentina and Chile. The Dakar Rally will be held again next year in South America. According to national media, the marathon rally raid, the Dakar 2011 will be held the third time in Argentina and Chile. The two countries have reached a agreement with the French organizers ASO. At the beginning of the year race director Etienne Lavigne had stated a 50:50 chance for the Dakar Rally to return to Africa.
The agreement between the two South American governments and the ASO has been made this week as Gabriel Ruiz-Tagle, head of the Chilean Institute of Sport, confirmed. Supposedly Chile has a reduction on event cost of 2 million dollars ( five instead seven million dollars). Argentina also claims to have negotiated a cost reduction.
An official confirmation on this agreements for the 2010 Dakar in South America by the ASO is still pending, but is expected for the coming week.
