AGM Trophy Truck endurance test
Armin Schwarz and All German Motorsports are well prepared for the race debut of the AGM-Jimco X6 SCORE Trophy Truck at the legendary Baja 1000. After the official presentation in Leipzig (GER), the AGM-Jimco X6 SCORE Trophy Truck now heads to its natural habitat – the desert. For the race premiere of the new vehicle, Armin Schwarz and All German Motorsports have sought out an infamous classic: the legendary Baja 1000 with its start and finish in Ensenada on the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. The final round of the US SCORE Championship is held on 18th and 19th November. 2011 marks the 44th running of this famous rally.
The objective of Armin Schwarz, Martin Christensen and the team is clear: Next year they aim to win the legendary Baja 1000 with the AGM-Jimco X6 SCORE Trophy Truck. But this time, the Baja 1000 will be run as a prolonged test under extremely grueling race conditions for the desert monster. A top placing or even victory is not yet part of the plan at this ‘test’.
“As far as our expectations go, it’s important that we keep our feet on the ground,” emphasizes Armin Schwarz. “Many people think we will immediately be amongst the front-runners and we’re receiving a lot of praise in advance. But we have to rein in the expectations a little. Normally, you have to conduct comprehensive tests and develop the car before you take off into a race with high ambitions and even begin talking about winning. Even now, many of our opponents are far ahead of us with more test kilometers and practice than we could ever achieve in the race. At this point we are right at the beginning with our Trophy Truck. We’ll set up many service stops which can provide assistance in case something is seriously wrong with the car. For us it’s crucial to see how the car handles and how long it lasts. Our aim is to rack up plenty of test ‘race’ kilometers.”
In addition, the Baja 1000 also serves to help team members become familiar with the race procedures with the Trophy Truck – after all, to now AGM has fielded two Class One Buggys. “The mechanics first have to learn how to manage things when something has to be changed,” says Armin Schwarz. “None of us is very familiar with the details of the car. So it could well be that we’re in for a surprise or two. And we can also gain a lot of insight of what might have to be changed so that we can optimize the service-friendliness of the truck. Moreover, we’ll take into account the mechanics’ feedback after the Baja 1000. We’re talking about topics like how much petrol, availability of parts, set-up of the suspension and drive train right through to the layout of the pit stop and so on.”
Whatever happens, the AGM-Jimco X6 SCORE Trophy Truck is bound to attract attention in the scene. SCORE president Sal Fish will present the vehicle to the American media during an official press conference prior to the event. “I can’t remember the last time a vehicle was presented by the SCORE organizers,” says Armin Schwarz somewhat proudly. “I think this is rather remarkable. And this of course gives us extra motivation – but it also puts a certain pressure on us. Because for Sal, this will be the next vehicle generation and the future of the championship. Even now, I want to thank everyone who has supported us with words and deeds over the last eight months and a special thank you to all our partners who have placed their trust in us. Let’s go and beat the Baja!”
